So far this semester we were given the opportunity to listen and meet with guest speaker Prashant Miranda, on two occasions. Both experiences were wonderful! I felt my source of inspiration and passion for art coming alive again, as it was struggling to survive through back to school chaos and general frustrations of an artist. It was a very refreshing experience to listen to Prashant about his life and experience as an artist with an overall passion to live and experience. He showed us that one of his biggest ways to record these experiences, feelings and studies was to constantly keep journals with you and constantly make notes of your daily findings.
About a year ago I actually did abide by this when I went to travel in Italy and it was the most magnificent feeling ever to be able to release all the new and exciting adventures that went on during the day into my journal. I had forgotten how important it made me feel about my art and about how I can express myself on a regular basis through a simple journal entry. Listening to Prashant and seeing his wonderful fabricated journals inspired me to create my own journal and continue what I had started when I went to Italy and keep frequent records of things I see and do in my life.
I am a very crafty person and really enjoy making cards, collages and mixed media creations and so at the end of the class I just couldn't wait to come home and make one of my very own journals. I had the resources all along, I just needed that little click to make me realize how easy it is to express your creative artistic side. These two pictures are of my new journal that will alone inspire me to create marks on a page with expression! It is made of mixed hand-made paper, some from Italy and some just from Curries Art Store, and to bind it all together I used a long piece of hemp cord. Voila!!!
