colouring with digital water :)

-digital painting and photo combination
Thanks to my friend Stace I tried out an online tutorial for watercolour effects in photoshop and this is what I came up with. I used my own photo that I took in Pisa, Italy. This was a fun little project!
Below is the link that she sent me for anyone interested:

go green!

A series of paintings I did to match the new bed outfit. I wanted a theme of nature and I love the organic silhouettes of natural objects... so this is what I came up with. I included my love of orchids and the bamboo shoots are for my boyfriend Cliff who recently bought a little bamboo plant.
Paintings are acrylic on stretched canvas.
The picture below shows everything all together. Oh how I love to decorate!

Summertime!

(acrylic on stretched canvas)
I was asked to do a painting for my friend's sister, who requested these colours and a graphicy design for her office/work space.
I have also done a few other paintings in this style for my old room that I will post later.

Flipbook 2009!

Here are my two pages for this years Animation student's flipbook- being 4th year, we get one b&w page as well as a coloured page. My coloured page is a little something from my short film, which I have been working on since September. It is scheduled to be done for the end of April 2009!

my handmade christmas cards...

For Birthdays and Christmases I always make my own cards for friends and family, so over the recent Christmas holiday I was busy making cards again and decided to post some- there are even a few from last year because when I thought about posting them it was way past wintertime! I have sooo much fun making these and am always filled with ideas so I just let my creativity take over.

influence of the wonderful west coast...

-India ink and red acrylic paint on paper

Since I spent this past summer in the beautiful province of BC, I was constantly inspired by the west coast native art. I love the organic shapes and flowing lines that wrap around the objects and reading about the old stories behind the symbols. I was inspired to create my own design while I was there in BC and chose to paint an owl. I still had some parts to finish though, so I finished it today.

tshirt design for school this year...

I wanted to do a tshirt design for this years animation tshirts- it ended up being quite simple but still fun and artsy. And I had fun getting my hands messy in paint while doing it! I also did a colour combo example of what it could look like on a shirt and since I love purple I chose a purple/grey combo.

Getting Crafty...

So far this semester we were given the opportunity to listen and meet with guest speaker Prashant Miranda, on two occasions. Both experiences were wonderful! I felt my source of inspiration and passion for art coming alive again, as it was struggling to survive through back to school chaos and general frustrations of an artist. It was a very refreshing experience to listen to Prashant about his life and experience as an artist with an overall passion to live and experience. He showed us that one of his biggest ways to record these experiences, feelings and studies was to constantly keep journals with you and constantly make notes of your daily findings.
About a year ago I actually did abide by this when I went to travel in Italy and it was the most magnificent feeling ever to be able to release all the new and exciting adventures that went on during the day into my journal. I had forgotten how important it made me feel about my art and about how I can express myself on a regular basis through a simple journal entry. Listening to Prashant and seeing his wonderful fabricated journals inspired me to create my own journal and continue what I had started when I went to Italy and keep frequent records of things I see and do in my life.
I am a very crafty person and really enjoy making cards, collages and mixed media creations and so at the end of the class I just couldn't wait to come home and make one of my very own journals. I had the resources all along, I just needed that little click to make me realize how easy it is to express your creative artistic side. These two pictures are of my new journal that will alone inspire me to create marks on a page with expression! It is made of mixed hand-made paper, some from Italy and some just from Curries Art Store, and to bind it all together I used a long piece of hemp cord. Voila!!!
